Chevrolet Is Born

On November 3, 1911, Chevrolet Motor Company was incorporated, establishing the venture associated with racing driver and engineer Louis Chevrolet and entrepreneur William C. “Billy” Durant. MotorCities and MotorTrend both identify that exact incorporation date; General Motors’ biography of Durant confirms that the two men founded Chevrolet together in 1911. [3][2][5]

The partnership brought together automotive business experience and racing expertise. Durant had founded General Motors, while Chevrolet had driven for Buick’s racing team. Their new company took Chevrolet’s name. The November anniversary marks a corporate founding—not the introduction of a particular model year. [2][5]

The company’s early production included the Classic Six in 1912. Decades later, Chevrolet introduced the Corvette in 1953 and the Camaro for the 1967 model year. Those cars belong to the brand’s subsequent history, rather than to the events of its founding day. [3][6]
